Type 1 Diabetes Clinical Research

Studies are taking place to investigate the potential treatment of type 1 diabetes (T1D) and advance research in this area. Right now, researchers are evaluating multiple investigational approaches that may target the inability to produce insulin. If you are living with T1D, one of these studies may interest you.

Recruiting Studies

UPWARD Study

This study is looking for individuals living with T1D to participate in a clinical research study of an investigational cell-based therapy. The investigational therapy consists of cells designed to produce insulin contained within devices designed to protect the cells from the immune system. These investigational devices are implanted in the space behind the muscles of the abdominal wall. Researchers are studying the safety, tolerability, and effectiveness of the investigational therapy in such individuals with T1D.

FORWARD Study

This study is looking for individuals with severe low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) to participate in a clinical research study of an investigational cell-based therapy infused into the liver. These individuals may have required assistance from someone else to recover from low blood sugar. Researchers are studying the safety, tolerability, and effectiveness of the investigational therapy in such individuals with T1D.
